bags for little girls

Monday, March 31st, 2008

what a lame title! I really couldn’t think of anything else!

cupcake_blog.jpg

all of the bags are modeled on my new ‘antique’ dummy : ) The dummy is for age 10 to 12 yrs, so these bags are really suitable for 4 to 10 year olds depending on their size.

dots_blog.jpg

This one, the yellow dots is slightly different, as its straps go from side to side, rather than front to back, just seeing what is actually better for the the girl who will be trying them out later this week.

Lastly we have this one,

flower_blog.jpg

This one is very gentle on the eyes, and all the bags are lined with a little pocket too, so they really are mini versions of my big bags.

I decided to make them have one strap and go across the body rather than like my ‘adult’ bags as I just felt that this was more suitable, I know all children want to carry half the house with them when they go out, but that isn’t that sort of bag, or am I bonkers!

Probably the latter, anyway, I feel a great deal better today, which is excellent, I like our bathrooms, but to be honest, I didn’t really want to spend that much time in them!

Two of these bags will make their way into the shop later this week, I’m going to let my ‘tester’ keep one as payment! They will probably be about $18. Going to work on a commission, and the shopper ideas, and some half made bags I have discovered in the cupboard!

Thanks for all the kind words recently, things I hope to be improving here by the end of April, I hope they will, and I hope it will be sooner : )

yep, I now have it too…. but I’m hoping that it is only going to last 24 hours, and because I’m a woman I will just drive on through it!

Last night I went to bed at 8pm, when did I last do that, but I felt better for it this morning, and even now I think it really helped.

Today has been an interesting one, a mixture of nice sunshine, view of our towel ladder in the bathroom, and sewing on pretty things onto little bags : ) Which I should be doing now, but well you know, doing this, so I can’t do two things at once!

I have recently acquired some new fabric for making ’stuff’,

japanese.jpg

So lovely, and they are all linen mixes so feel divine!

I’m looking forward to using them, not sure on what yet, but I hope to find the perfect use soon.

I think I need a cup of tea, but I shall leave you with one thing, when your youngest son in outside in his pj’s and sandals, and comments on deer poo being in the garden, make sure you check his toes before he re-enters the house!

.

.

.

p.s. …..yes I did say pj’s and sandals, it was sunny, it wasn’t raining, so I’m only slightly a bad mother!

a week..

..has passed since my last post, which is a long time recently for blog posting : )

This past week has not been the best, but I guess you have to take the positives from it, and there have been a few. The Easter weekend went in a blur, I spent most of it painting my parents-in-law study, which is now almost complete, so I hope they can start to move all their stuff back in this weekend : )

Other than that Edward had a tummy bug over the weekend, so no school on Tuesday either, so major paddy from William : (

Now John has it, and it was his birthday yesterday, so not as much fun as it could have been : ( So as you can tell not the greatest of weeks, but I have finally completed four new totes.

close-up.jpg

These four are far more graphical I feel, I really like them all, but two are real favourites, and will get made again I’m sure : )

I’m working on some new ideas, including a shopper and little girls bags, which I’m demoing to some little girls next week, I don’t know who will be more scared!

I have other stuff to talk about, and to show you, but my brain is a big mushy mess, I need to sort it out and then write more, so bear with me : )

Woohoooooo!!!!!

etsy_blog.jpg

actually mine has now moved into the middle! Wow, and I have sold two bags, wow and wow, thank you oh great Etsy gods : )

table

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

could I have come up with a duller title? Hmm probably not, but the table in question is not dull, well not to me, woohoo, I have a handmade extension table for my sewing machine!

table_blog.jpg

isn’t it fab! My father in law made for me as I can’t afford a perspex one that they make in the US, and Pfaff don’t seem to make anything for my machine anymore, because mine is a ‘basic’ model and isn’t all singing and all dancing and is over 10 years old, well it might as well not exist!

I’m not complaining, just a little frustrated by it. Maybe when I’m rich I will get a newer model, but this one has done me proud, and it just plain and simple, like me :  )

Nothing else to show really, hectic weekend, and now Easter coming up, I won’t have any new bags for sale until after the Easter weekend, but we will see how it goes. Instead a shot of a dead orchid flower!

orchid.jpg

I love the depth of colour, and that they almost seem unreal or other worldly, really fab, I hope I can get them all to flower again, or they will have to go home to flower again with my mum!

So they are all in the shop now, and lovely I think they all are!

blue, buttons, front page and late

Friday, March 14th, 2008

I’m running well behind this week, not many blog posts, not much on Flickr, well this is compared to my aims for the past couple of months, just feel weary, not tired so much, just weary, I think that makes sense.

I have been doing some stuff at my parents in law, so I have not been working full time on my bags, so they have slipped well behind, but I hope to list them tomorrow, I just have to stitch up the bags with the handles, so four new chocolate brown linen totes, almost, but here is a little peek,

bluebird_blog.jpg

I like it, and I do like the other ones I have made too, I don’t know what is happening on Etsy, I do wonder if it is just me and Lucie, or are others affected too, slow, and not much interest, but, and a big but, I was on the front page on Wednesday night!

I’m in the bottom row in the middle!

etsy_front.jpg

A lovely selection and even better that it features me!

Thank you for all your responses to my offer of buttons, and the lucky winner as selected at Random.org is Joanna! Well done!

I hope that my mojo starts to work better next week, as I want to start work on some little girls bags again, but then again, they didn’t sell that well, oh well, we’ll try again : )

wshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

is that what wind sounds like? Well it’s a bit windy here, but if you are anywhere in the UK I guess it is where you are too!

Sorry if you are in Wales or the west country, seems like you have probably had it worst so far : (

The light is not so good here, so today more photos of buttons! These arrived today, so I now have more to make my tags with, as I had run very short. I have taken photos of the more inetresting ones, these are a lovely set of four carved ones,

4c.jpg

and these wonderful French ones, which look like mini crockery to me, just divine!

french_blog.jpg

I have in the process of getting all these buttons acquired by accident some lovely ones which have shanks rather than holes, unfortunately these ones are not much use to me, so I would like to offer these nine to a home where they will find a use!

forfree.jpg

So if you would like them, please leave a comment before Thursday, and I will do a draw and they will wing their way on to a nice new home!

Onto other matters, Julie is doing something that I did this morning, and I too landed in Holland about 2 years ago, most of the time you just do stuff and don’t think about it that much, because your life is normal for you, but when you do an annual review, you really are reminded of what your life is, and what their life is too.

Then when the Head says that in a years time you are going to have to start thinking about secondary schools, well it hits you quite hard…

But remember buttons are lovely and if you want some, say Yes!!!

thank you Julie :)

I want to hug you and kiss you, my first e-mail bounced, the second one seems to have gone, I can’t say everything on here, but I just want you to know how much I appreciate this wonderful suprise!

THANK YOU!!!

working on new ideas, and I’ve produced this so far,

three.jpg

Pleased so far, here is another bit,

two_blog.jpg

I’m working on 4 new chocolate brown bags, this one features six of the carved vintage mother of pearl buttons, they are lovely, so pleased I got them. I have bought some more on eBay, when the weather is a bit warmer on Sunday mornings we will probably go to some car boot sales as they have been a good source for them in the past.

William loves boot sales, as he not only love Lego, but Polly Pocket too!

shut.jpg

I mean, who wouldn’t, this one measures 6cm (2.5″) across when it is shut, and when it is open, full of little things to fiddle with : )

open.jpg

There was version for boys, but not as nice as this : ) Also, new Polly Pocket isn’t like this : ( More like Barbie type stuff, and there is only so much pink and girly stuff that can get in this house!
