wip
I already have this on Flickr, but I thought I would add a bit on here too. I’m working on a piece I’ve called Flowing Fields, it is not finished yet, definately work in progress.
I thought I would show where I started from, and the discoveries I’m making. I made a piece of felt I’m actually really pleased with, I put some quiting wool on it, which I intended to work on with the machine embroidery.
It looks good, but I tried to work on the white lines, and it really didn’t work at all. So instead I added some unfelted wool fibre, and some some silk noil, which I stitched on, which worked really nicely.
I then started, with a bit more confidence brewing, to use the machine to embroider, which worked nicely.
I now need to bead this up, I think I have done enough stitching, and I don’t want to overdo it!
When I have finished it I will let you see!

I love it, it’s all scrunchy and wonderful.
Such great stuff you do.

Hi, I’ve been taking a look at your blog, very interesting…Is the piece with the title wip the basic felt used for flowing fields? the final result is fabulous, i’m intrigued by the stitching , it looks so fat, is that due to the thread or did you use an embroidery stitch? I have recently been experimenting with fme on my felt, but my machine goes crazy, I just cannot get the tension right, any tips????

Thank you both! I think the sitching looks fat, because I added so much more fibre, and then repeatably over stitched! I’m not a great user of the sewing machine, so the whole tension thing is a complete mystery to me!!!!
I don’t like proper machine embroidery thread, because it is shiny, and I prefer a duller thread, but it was easier to use I guess
