My pleasure! Love your work, Alice! I hear you on the Etsy photos…I’m struggling to figure out the best way to photograph things in a poorly-lit apartment without a proper background or backdrop.
And the photo thing? Can’t hubby work his magic? Or failing that, use a tripod always in the same place and a set location ( I’m rather fond of your fence myself). That way you’d get a consistancy of scale. But what do I know?! I think your photos of your lovely bags are great.
I like it when you get a picture of the bag in use too. Gives an idea of size on the boby.
Do you know how to use the micro function on your camera? This was probably the best piece of advice I was given, it allows for very clear close-ups. It usually is a little button on the camera with a tulip on it–mine has a tulip on one side, a person and some trees on the other and you slide the button back and forth depending on what you want.
The wooden background works with some, but is a little distracting on others. Maybe also play around with the functions in your photo-editing softward, see about brightening the pictures or evening out the colors. Overall, I think they are pretty good–better than mine! And the quality of the pictures doesn’t seem to be affecting your sales in any way.
I’ve wondered about getting an antique (or faux antique) tailors dummy and using that for bags with long straps. If you always use the same location that would help but then you have the problem of different light at different times of the day.
On the other hand, you can spend more time worrying about the photos than you do making your bags (I do anyway). Yours look fine to me and really all a buyer wants is a clear idea of what they’re getting.
I am really happy to do the bag photos, last time I did they came out well.
The main problem is there is nowhere in the house which is suitable to take them – somewhere bright with a white or neutral wall colour. That is the real problem.
Re: photos….pick a spot where the light is good, and try to use the same spot for the same products, same position etc.
Might be a little easy for me…since my boyfriend is a photographer…

Good luck finding a solution.

I vote for the fence. And get hubby to do them, then you can play stylist. I too want to re-do my photos, don’t think I’m doing things justice.
