journal/sketchbook/notebook/diary – what is it?
I guess a blog like I’m doing is all of the above, but maybe not too personal, though it could be. I know there are people who read this that I know “in real life”, and maybe I don’t want to share that much of my inner thoughts about life with everyone….I think I’ve gone off on a tangent!
What I was going to say was this, years ago, a long time ago, when I was doing my A levels, then my foundation course and finally my degree, I kept my sketchbooks going all the time, they were part of me, without them I did not have everything to continue with, they were a living thing that worked along beside me.
I always found it hard to continue with them once I completed my degree, though while we were film making after we started working I did start one again, but only during film making. I still have them all, and I should look at them with fresh eyes now.
I want to start one again, it isn’t a sketchbook, or a diary, or a scrapbook, but a bit of everything, so I guess the term journal is correct, it will hopefully be a recording of what is going on with me and my ideas, my desire that will turn into something, become a piece, something that will be in front of me rather than just inside me. I wonder if that is truly possible?
I have always found in the past really hard to get started, thankfully Whipup have just had a piece on it all about keeping a journal, have a look, and let me know if you start one too, maybe we can compare notes. This link off the site is great by the way, and I’ve already printed off the pdf.

I know what you mean about ‘real-life’ readers stifling what you are prepared to say on your blog.
So go go with the journal – I think it’s probably very healthy.
