fingers and thumbs
a confession…..
I tried…..
so hard…..
but I had to give up : (
maybe crochet is not for me, I’m going to give it another go, get another book, try again, and the worst thing was, I found it so hard I couldn’t enjoy it : (
John however, has had far more success with his knitting!
(damn him! back to the sewing machine!)

Difficult isn’t it. You’re not alone!

I know I’ve posted to you via Twitter, but I thought I’d repeat myself here too!
I attempted crochet numerous times, before I watched someone do it, and felt strangely bereft that I couldn’t crochet, so I went and purchased the Rowan Crochet Workshop. With it’s spiral bound pages, it lies flat without the pages flicking over. The photos are numerous, and clear – and they even feature proper hands so you know what you are supposed to be doing! The lessons are laid out so simply, and I learnt to crochet. I love it!

Hope you find the book and give it a go 😀

I know exactly where you’re coming from! I felt just the same a couple of months ago (well, probably getting on 12 months now) when I started out determined to teach myself how to crochet.
My best advice would be to start something in the round first – soooooo much easier than crocheting in rows!! That really helped me get the hang of the stitches and stuff so when I went back to trying rows it made much more sense.
Also, I can’t recommend enough the pattern’s that Lucy over at Attic 24 has on her blog. She writes them so clearly, with great photo instructions (showing just where the hook should go etc) that it makes it much, much easier to follow. Pop over there and take a look if you haven’t already. The patterns are in the left hand side bar. You won’t regret it!

Hey,
I also sent you a reply on twitter. I got the Encyclopedia of crochet techniques by Jan Eaton. The last time I did some crochet was around 17 years ago. I certainly couldn’t remember much. This book is brilliant. I learnt it so quick that I even started a quite difficult project at the start. Now I live it.
Don’t give up yet. It is so easy when you get the right instructions.
Good luck!!!

Keep trying, I have only just learnt to crochet and every peice gets neater and better and I love it now. Don’t give up!. Look at books that teach children how to do it, one I used was ‘Kids learn to crochet’ by Lucinda Guy and Francois Hall.
Love

Are you a left-hander? If so, find a lefty crocheter to show you, learning from the book will drive you mad (that’s my excuse for insanity, anyhow).

LOL!! You remind me of me with crochet.. It’s my one sewing poison hahahaha… I cannot crochet to save my life, I can sew, I can knit.. I don’t know what it is with the one needle thing.. I desperately tried to learn following online tutorials and even my mum who is a fabulous crocheter tried to teach me.. She gave up with trying in the end.. I just can’t get it for love nor money, no matter how many times I try.. Like you it has become a chore to learn so its something I really I don’t have the joy to even try.. Apparently my mum says its easier than knitting, then she does both lol *shrugs* have a fabulously happy day!!

I know this sounds like a mum thing to say, but good on you for trying. It is so easy to stick to what we know (and what we are good at), so well done for venturing into the world of the unknown. Hang in there… I’m sure crocheting is not something that you master on the first go.

I’d also recommend the Rowan Crochet Workshop book. Recently I’ve tried a few different books to try to learn how to crochet but this one is the best, I think. It’s very clear and simple and the instructions are well written and easy to follow.
