I’ve been a member of a book group now for about a year, and on the whole, I would say the books I have read have been enjoyable. Of course over a year a couple of the books have been a bit duff, but I would say that the good outweighs the bad.
Next book we will be discussing is the classic William Golding novel, Lord of the Flies. I read it originally at school, and I found it then to be a really exciting gripping novel, and almost wanting to be part of it all.
Now I’m reading it as a parent of a 4 and 7 year old, and it has totally changed the book for me. It is still gripping, but rather than exciting, it is shocking and disturbing. I won’t go into plot in case you have not read it, but I think what about with the boys in the book, is not far from what would happen with children now, or even adults.
I have really enjoyed reading this, and I hope it will make plenty of good discussion when we meet next week to discuss it.
