presents for teachers
I know quite a few teachers, both working in the profession, taking a break from it and retired, and I know that Christmas and the end of the academic year can mean horrible presents and trinkets! So I have always tried to give presents that are unique and more thoughtful, and more importantly things that can be used or worn.
Previous years I have given my sister in laws jewellery, and last Christmas I gave some of my corsages. Corsages were a consideration again this year, but I thought, only just given some, and they can be a bit wintery, so what have I been making lots of?
Yep, bags!!!
Here are the detail shots : )
I have tried to keep them in line with my current designs, so a linen base with nice cotton stitched on top,
They are all fully lined,
The all have the button detailing,
I think the red fern one is my favorite : ) I would use it all the time, and I hope they will all use them.
Some boring info on them, they are all the same, they measure 10.5″ across by 13.5″ deep with no gusset, and the handles are 24.5″ long, so suitable for carrying in your hand, or over the shoulder.
If anyone would be interested in one of these for themselves, drop me an e-mail, the only one I can’t do is the two blue flower one, as I don’t have enough fabric to line another bag. I guess a bag like one of these would be about £12. Anyhow, enough of that, and what are you giving to your children’s teachers?

These bags are so cute. The teachers will love them. My son is not in school yet, but I think it will be fun to make gifts like these when he starts school next year.

These are beautiful – I think the big blue flower is my favourite but they all look fab with the contrast of print fabric against the linen – what a wonderful teacher present, I’ve not even thought about it – luckily Toby has the same teachers next year so it’s just Amy’s to worry about – better get my thinking cap on!

Wow, lucky teachers! I’m glad you’re not in my child’s class you’d put us to shame!
This year Annie picked some flowers from our garden to make a bouquet for her teachers.

Darn– those are very nice (and special!) gifts.
Hmmmm…Very tempting idea about the custom tote, actually. Maybe post some pics letting us know which fabrics you have that we can choose from? You made a back with some lovely Freshcut fabric, as I recall. Do you still have any of the greens left?

Ok…I have to tell you, I am a teacher and I have NEVER gotten anything so cute as a gift. I would fall out of my chair if one of my students walked into the room with that for me! How absolutely lovely they are!

I think the bags look great – I’m sure they’ll be appreciated.
If you could drop me a copy of the pattern that would be great. Thanks for sharing.

Not sure what to do this year….have also done the corsage thing and most of the school have scented hearts.. was thinking bags too but my little one likes to make a present so maybe we will come up with a combined design. Not got long as they finish on Wednesday!
It’s sad when they leave a lovely class but good to have the summer hols and no routine..enjoy yours x

Now why didn’t I have a thoughtful parent like you when I was teaching. I would have loved to have opened a parcel at the end of term to find one of these bags.
How thoughtful!

Oh they’re really pretty – I did something similar for ours – bookbags for the teachers and pencil rolls for the TAs. They liked them 🙂
Enjoy the holidays!

Brilliant idea – tried hard this year to find something small to give the teachers and assistants and the answer was on my sewing table all the time. Next year!

I’ve just come to your blog for the first time (c/o LittleCottonRabbits) and its lifted my spirit on this grey day.
These bags are sunshine loving bags! They fill your heart with the sunshine even when its raining! (AGAIN !!!) I love, love LOVE the pink flower bag, is there any chance of one still being available? It would inspire me to do the food shopping a little bit more!
I hope the sun comes out again soon…

Your bags are stunning. I love the pink, the blue and the orange. And the contrast of the colours against the linen. My mum was a teacher, and you’re right she received many many trinkets and chocolates over the years. She would have loved to receive a bag like this.
