{"id":3987,"date":"2018-09-24T11:37:00","date_gmt":"2018-09-24T11:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.raspberry.co.uk\/?p=3987"},"modified":"2018-09-24T11:37:00","modified_gmt":"2018-09-24T11:37:00","slug":"mystery-magical-or-just-sewing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.raspberry.co.uk\/?p=3987","title":{"rendered":"Mystery, magical or just sewing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raspberry.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_2943.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3989\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raspberry.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_2943-969x1024.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2943\" width=\"969\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.raspberry.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_2943-969x1024.jpg 969w, http:\/\/www.raspberry.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_2943-284x300.jpg 284w, http:\/\/www.raspberry.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_2943.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 969px) 100vw, 969px\" \/><\/a>On Saturday I was supporting and assisting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.johnbloor.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">John<\/a> at the first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/2000681779982743\/\" target=\"_blank\">Southampton Wayzgoose Print Fair<\/a>, it was quite a novelty not having to do any set-up of my own stuff and be there just for him, and eye-opening too.<br \/>\nIt was full on throughout the day, with lots of lovely customers and incredibly positive feedback for John, and sales across a variety of items which was very encouraging for him.<br \/>\nThe eye-opening comments for me were comments which basically inferred that that printmaking is more original, diverse and that the event on Saturday was more interesting, creative and stimulating than &#8216;craft&#8217; events. I was really taken back by that, and later on during a chat with a printmaker, we discussed this, he suggested that printmaking has an air of mystery to it, because people either can&#8217;t create it at home or don&#8217;t understand how it&#8217;s created.<br \/>\nMaybe this is why I love ceramics as much as I do, I cannot make them because I don&#8217;t have the equipment or the training, and I love the thought of how they are made and the creativity that goes into it.<\/p>\n<p>Making textiles, especially what I make, is something that most people can do, either by hand sewing, or using a machine, what is it that makes my work different, unique or magical? I&#8217;m not sure I know anymore, especially now I&#8217;m working mainly with the <a href=\"https:\/\/folksy.com\/shops\/raspberry\" target=\"_blank\">printed fabric that John creates for me<\/a>.<br \/>\nPeople don&#8217;t stand in front of Johns stand and discuss how easy it is to make, and how they can make it at home, they just buy it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raspberry.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_0392.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3988\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raspberry.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_0392-877x1024.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0392\" width=\"877\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.raspberry.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_0392-877x1024.jpg 877w, http:\/\/www.raspberry.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_0392-257x300.jpg 257w, http:\/\/www.raspberry.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_0392.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 877px) 100vw, 877px\" \/><\/a>By the way, I&#8217;m not moaning at all, I&#8217;m so proud of John and what he has achieved and will continue to do, but I have to question what I do, how I do it, and why do people buy my work?<\/p>\n<p>Any ideas would be gratefully received!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Saturday I was supporting and assisting John at the first Southampton Wayzgoose Print Fair, it was quite a novelty not having to do any set-up of my own stuff and be there just for him, and eye-opening too.
